Letter to Expedite Hospital Appointment or Procedure

Waiting for a hospital appointment?

We understand that long waits can be worrying. The hospital prioritises appointments based on medical need. Your GP practice cannot directly change your appointment date.

Need an update?

Waiting for your first appointment?

Contact the hospital’s outpatient booking team.

Already seeing a specialist?

Contact your consultant’s secretary.

Having trouble getting a response?

Contact the hospital’s Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS).

Contact details are on the hospital website or available through its switchboard.

Have your symptoms got worse?

Contact your hospital specialist team so they can review whether you need an earlier appointment. If you cannot reach them or need medical advice while waiting, contact your GP practice.

Need a letter requesting an earlier appointment?

We cannot provide a letter solely because you have been waiting a long time. If the hospital asks for a letter, use the templates below to explain your concerns and how your condition affects you.
