Pre-bookable GP Appointments and Same Day Appointments
We try to ensure that you can book an appointment at least 4 weeks ahead. This is not easy and we are continuously monitoring and modifying the system; whilst doing our best to provide equitable access for all our patients within the finances and staff at our disposal in the current climate of austerity in the NHS.
The information below is contained in a brief format in our leaflet Information for Patients May 2017. The leaflet includes full information regarding what the Practice considers are and are not appropriate problems for the Acute Assessment Same Day Team. Click here to access the leaflet.
Pre-Bookable GP Appointments
There are a limited number of appointments available that are bookable up to 4 weeks in advance. These are suitable for medication reviews and for medical issues of a non-urgent nature. Pre-bookable appointments become available for booking daily at 8 am 2, 4, and 7 days in advance, that is, at 8 am today new appointments became available and at 8 am tomorrow another batch of new appointments will become available.
Patients can book these appointments on-line please see “on-line access” below. New appointments are released each day, including weekends, for on-line booking.
We provide pre-bookable appointments on Monday and Friday evenings from 6.30pm to 8.00 pm.
Weekend Pre-Bookable Appointments
Across Lichfield and Burntwood, GP Practices take turns to open on Saturday and Sunday mornings for pre-bookable appointments. Please ask at reception for more information or to book an appointment.
One Problem for One Appointment
To be fair to other Langton patients and help us run our clinics on time, we politely ask patients to discuss one issue only in an appointment. You should not expect multiple problems to be assessed in one appointment unless those problems are all urgent or related to the presenting acute condition. Longer appointments, based on clinical need, are available on request and these will be triaged by clinicians before we book them.
We appreciate your assistance in this matter.
Acute Assessment Same Day Team
For patients who feel they have a medical problem that is urgent and needs to be assessed that day we provide an ACUTE ASSESSMENT SAME DAY TEAM each day (Lichfield Surgery only). The Same Day team is staffed by GPs and Advanced Nurse Practitioners.
Unless a situation affects our clinical staffing, patients can come to the surgery and wait in the knowledge that if there is safe clinical capacity they will be seen that day.
The patients on the Same Day List are seen on a first come first served basis, unless there is clinical urgency that warrants prioritising one patient over others. Patients can wait for over an hour but do so if they want to be seen urgently and without a pre-booked appointment.
For patients who cannot attend the surgery and have an urgent need we provide the call back service until safe clinical capacity is reached. A Same Day Team clinician will telephone the patient and assess if the patient has a medical need that requires an appointment, and arranges an appointment within a clinically appropriate timeframe, or gives advice on suitable home medication. Please note that on days when we close in the afternoon for Protected Learning Time the call back service will be limited.
To be fair to other Langton patients we politely ask patients to discuss one urgent issue only in the same day appointment. Multiple problems will not be assessed by the Same Day Team member unless those problems are all urgent or related to the presenting acute condition. We appreciate your assistance in this matter.
